Le nombre de marcheurs, visitant les montagnes indiennes, est faible par rapport à ceux qui foulent les pistes du Népal. Si vous voulez l'expérience de la quiétude en inde, essayez le trekking dans l'Himachal Pradesh et l’Uttar Pradesh. La saison de trekking s’étend entre avril et Novembre, mais cela varie beaucoup et certaines routes ne sont ouvertes que pour quelques mois chaque année.
Les principales zones de trekking sont Lahaul, Spiti et les vallées de Kangra et Kullu dans l'Himachal Pradesh ; au nord de Rishikesh, dans le nord de l'Uttar Pradesh; à Darjeeling dans le Bengale Occidental; à Yuksam au Sikkim ; et à Leh au Ladakh.
